Digital tachographs
Comparing to traditional analogue equipments the most significant difference is that these ones record events not onto paper disk, but to a chip card similar to a bankcard. The following four equipments / manufacturers have type approval in Hungary:
- Actia / SmarTach
- Continental / 1381 (former Siemens)
- Efcon / EFAS
- Stoneridge / SE5000,

Basic requirements regarding operation of digital tachographs (beyond those of analogue tachographs):
- Data download from equipment at least once in every 3 months
- Data download from driver card at least once in every 28 days
- Archiving downloaded data (storing for one year)
- The company must be lock in to the tachograph
- There must me at least one spare paper roll to the printer
