The armoured cable is a flexible protective pipe in which there is an electric cable from the speed sensor to the tachograph. Its function is to prevent manipulation of the sensorcable. The armoured cable is obligatory in accordance with 3688/92 EC regulation.

The armoured cable is necessary for the analogue tachograps, which have a four-wire speed sensor and the sensor isn’t digitally coded. (some example for the tachograph types: 1318; 1319; 8400). In Hungary the installation deadlines are the followings: from 1 May 2004 in vehicles participating in international transportation.

From 1 May 2006 it is obligatory in vehicles participating in domestic traffic, but periodic inspection after 1 May 2004 can only be performed if the vehicle is equipped with armoured cable.
